Climbing a tower of the Sagrada Família in 2026

The tower tickets let you go up one tower, either on the Nativity facade or on the Passion facade. Each ticket covers only one of them. The basilica with tower costs €36 for adults in 2026, and the basilica with guided visit and tower costs €40. Seniors, under 30s and companions pay less, and the full table is on the tickets page.

You go up by lift and come down on foot, according to the official wording. The official sources do not give a number of steps, so this guide does not either. The tower part adds time: the ticket page lists about one hour 30 minutes for a visit with a tower.

Both are bell towers on the sides of the basilica. The main difference is the direction of the view.

If you want a view of the city centre, choose the Passion side. If you prefer the eastern view, choose the Nativity side. Check the booking page to see which tower your chosen slot gives you. More about the facades is on the facades page.

Lift up, stairs down

The way back down is on foot. Plan some time for the descent, and avoid a tight schedule right after your tower slot. A visit with a tower takes about one hour 30 minutes in total, according to the ticket page.

Tower visitors can leave bags and rucksacks in a locker before the climb, and this is required. These lockers are for tower visitors only. There are no lockers for suitcases anywhere at the basilica, so leave large luggage at your hotel.

Who cannot go up the towers

  • Children under 6 are not allowed. Children from 6 to 16 may only go with an adult.
  • Reduced mobility, wheelchairs and pushchairs are not possible in the towers.
  • Health and comfort: the tower is not suitable if you are pregnant, or have vertigo, claustrophobia, or heart or breathing problems.
  • Assistance dogs are not allowed in the towers.
  • Bags and rucksacks must go into a locker before you climb.

If someone in your group cannot climb, the standard basilica ticket for €26 is the better choice for them. Everyone books their own ticket, so one person can take the tower ticket while the rest visit the basilica.

Weather closures and refunds

The towers can close in bad weather, or because of a technical fault, maintenance or force majeure. The official sources give no wind limit. If a tower closes, the rules say that only the tower part is refunded, but the ticket page says there is no refund when towers are closed. Because these two statements conflict, the safe summary is: the tower may close, and a refund is not guaranteed.

Whole-basilica closures happen too. On 3 and 4 October 2026 the basilica closed because of bad weather. Check the forecast before you go and keep an alternative plan for the same day. See the opening hours page for closures and event changes.

The Tower of Jesus Christ is not open in 2026

The tallest tower, the Tower of Jesus Christ, is 172.5 metres high. Its main structure is finished, and the cross arm was placed on 20 February 2026. Pope Leo XIV blessed it on 10 June 2026, 100 years after Gaudí's death.

You cannot visit it in 2026, and it is not part of any ticket. According to the construction management, the viewpoint in the cross holds only 11 people and will not open before 2027. There is no confirmed official date, so treat any earlier or exact date you see online with caution.

Which towers can you climb?

Only one tower on the Nativity facade and one on the Passion facade are open to visitors. The towers of the Evangelists (135 m) and the Tower of Mary (138 m) are finished but cannot be climbed. In total 18 towers are planned: 12 bell towers on the facades, each about 100 metres tall, and 6 central towers.
